PS07 Turrt Ship Huascar
Peru, Turret ship, 1862
Built in Britain for the Peruvian Navy, the Huascar had an active service life of over 20 years, fought in 5 major wars and served in 2 navies. Armed with a Coles-type turret mounting two 10" MLR guns, she sank a Chilean frigate with gunfire, rammed and sank the Chilean firgate Esmaralda and fought the Royal Navy steam frigate HMS Shah (an action that included the first use of locomotive torpedos). She was finally captured by Chile in 1875 at the Battle of Angjamos.

Completely restored during 1978, she is now moored at the Chilean naval base of Talcahuano, where she is visited by thousands of poeple every year.

The model can be built to show the Huascar as she appeared when first built or as she appears today. An optional reduced rig shows how she may have appeared at the Battle of Anjamos.
