Description
The fog signal building at Pendeen Lighthouse was built in 1900 and originally used 5-inch compressed air powered sirens to create the fog-signal. They were upgraded to 12-inch sirens in 1926 and these remained in use until 1995 when the fog horns were replaced by a separate electronic signal – this in turn remained in use until 2014 when the fog-signal at Pendeen was discontinued.
Neither the lighthouse nor the fog signal building are open to the public,
When in use, the fog horn sounded one 5 second blast every 30 seconds (it has a range of 2 nautical miles (3.7 km; 2.3 miles))
