Description

The Prince Madog is a small research ship operated by Bangor University. She was launched in 2001 after a 2-stage building process – the hull built in Romania and fitting out done in the Netherlands.

Her role is to carry out marine research projects, primarily in the Irish Sea and round the West coast of the UK – though she can travel further afield if needed. Her facilities include wet and dry laboratories, echo sounders, very low noise propulsion systems, various cranes and accommodation for up to 8 scientists.

The Prince Madog is is named after a Welsh prince and is the second ship operated by Bangor university to bear that name.
