M15 was launched in 1915 as part of a program to provide shore bombardment vessels or monitors. During WWI she saw service at Gallipoli, Greece and Palestine. She was sunk off Egypt in 1917 by a U-boat.
Her sister ships saw service off the Belgium coast during WWI and later in North Russia.
Some were converted to minelayers and other to small tankers for civilian use. All have been scrapped.
