Monitor, Spain, 1875

SKU: PS09 Categories: ,

Description

Puigcerda was a small river monitor built in France in 1873 for the Spanish Government. Stationed in Bilbao during the Carlist Wars, she was later transferred to Ferrol. She was scrapped about 1920 after conversion to a merchant ship.

The model is a reconstruction of the monitor’s appearance based on 2 surviving photographs, a painting and the known dimensions of the vessel. It shows Puigcerda as she probably appeared when launched.
