Description
Royal Sovereign lighthouse was completed in 1971 and replaced a lightship of the same name. The lighthouse was made on dry land in two parts ??? the reinforced concrete supporting column (placed in position first) and the upper deck/lantern (with built-in accommodation for the keepers and a helideck) – which was added in a second phase after which the column was raised to its full height.
The lighthouse was automated and converted to solar power in 1994 – it is not open to the public.
This model is part of a range of models of English and Welsh lighthouses produced under the terms of a licencing agreement with Trinity House.
