Description
The roll-on-roll-off ferry “Viking 4” was launched in 1973 at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg – the fifth of 9 near-sister-ships known as the “Papenberg Sisters”. She sailed initially for the Sally Line between Finland and Sweden from 1970 to 1980. She was then sold to Sealink and renamed “Earl Granville” and entered service sailing between Portsmouth and the Channel Islands. After 1990 she sailed a number of routes in the Aegean and was finally scrapped in 2005. When originally built she could carry 1,200 passengers and 260 cars.
This model of Earl Granville is a digitised version of an unpublished design by the late German designer Nils-Peter Jaechel and every effort has been made to be faithful to his original creation. The model has been published with the approval of the designer’s family and is a joint project by David Hathaway and Klaus Hildebrand. The model is available as either a printed model or as a downloadable PDF.

The standard model shows the Earl Granville in late Sealink colours (all white hull) – it is also available to special order in the original Viking/Sally Line red hull/white upper-works colour scheme and the earlier Sealink dark blue hull/white upper-works colour scheme.
